Why would you like to be baptized?

Please take time to review the Bible verses and answer the questions below.

Read: Matthew 3:13-17

The first thing Jesus did when He began His public ministry was to identify with repentant sinners by being baptized.

Why did Jesus insist that John baptize him? (vs. 15)

What is righteousness vs. unrighteousness?

How did God the Father respond to this step of obedience by His Son? (vs.17)

Read: Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-16

Would it be accurate to say that baptism is important to Jesus?

Jesus Himself was baptized first. God now calls us to follow Him and identify publicly with Jesus through baptism. Does the idea of baptism make sense to you? Do you have any questions?

Read: Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12

Baptism is also a great picture of how our old life and sins were defeated through Jesus’ death. We are raised out of the water as a picture of the new resurrection life that we have in Christ.

Are you confident that you have trusted in Jesus, received forgiveness for all your sins, and have begun walking in the new direction of life with Jesus? Read 1 John 1:8-9, 3:3, 5:13.
